FLL 2024: 10 out of 10 on Collect, Lift - Nautiq accomplishing M06, M07 Pro Preview

This video tutorial focuses on accomplishing M06 Raise the Mast and M07 Kraken’s Treasure of the FIRST LEGO League 2024-2025 SUBMERGED Challenge using the Nautiq box robot (a LEGO Education SPIKE Prime robot). The point is to achieve a perfect 10 out of 10 score for these interconnected missions in one smooth sequence.

The robot first secures the treasure chest before fully raising the mast, avoiding the mechanism that would otherwise lock the chest in place. This requires precise timing and control to push, lift, and stop at the correct point, then complete the mast-raising motion. You can watch the full explaining tutorial here.

This is a 10 out of 10 tutorial for FIRST LEGO League 2024-2025 SUBMERGED, where we accomplish the Raise the Mast mission and collect the treasure. The goal is to raise part of the mission model without them falling back and to collect a treasure that's on the inside. We explain it in details in the tutorial for the mission. This is a 10 out of 10. Let's see how consistent the behavior of our robot for this really complex mission is. 10 out of 10. We look at the consistency and reliability of the attachment along with the behavior of the robot. First thing to notice is that these are mission models that are close to base. So it's worth starting, going, accomplishing them, and then returning back to base. Because the whole mission model is quite complex, and it's difficult to use these attachments for the other missions. We've built attachments specifically for this mission. We go, we accomplish the mission, we return back to base.

And for now, it's three out of three. Then, the next thing is, you can see that the attachment is like two-parts attachment. It's on the front of the robot. It's easy to put the whole robot over the attachment. We move. We must lift part of the mission model. But as we lift part of the mission model, we must prevent it from falling back. We must lift only to a certain extent. So, we have this attachment on the front, and these are angle beams. And as we move forward, the whole mission model kind of locks. And it cannot continue forward. It cannot continue forward because we have these yellow beams at the top.

So it locks right here.

But then the other very difficult part, and we saw some teams that could manage to collect the treasure, but collecting the treasure is difficult. So you should lock the treasure as you approach the mission model and as you lift part of the mission model. The trick that we've used there is to have some rubber band, not rubber bands, but rubber parts in this small attachment on the front that connect with the treasure. This allows us to bring back the treasure because of the friction between the rubber and the treasure, without grabbing it, we can still kind of collect it and return it back to base.

It's like 8 out of 10 at the moment. The other interesting thing about this mission is that if you fail, you can always start again.

Now, what will be the state of the mission model after a failure is something that you can decide on the go, but if you've just missed it for some reason because it's really close to base, you can go and you can start it again. This was like 10 runs. 11 runs. We are not even counting. We were so impressed of how consistent and reliable the robot is that we kind of stopped counting here and just were running the robot, trying to accomplish the mission and accomplishing it every time.

That's it. 10 out of 10. Hope this is helpful, and I'll see you in the next tutorial.
