FLL 2024: 10 out of 10 on Push, Lift - Nautiq accomplishing M8 Artificial Habitat Pro Preview

This video tutorial focuses on accomplishing M8 Artificial Habitat of the FIRST LEGO League 2024-2025 SUBMERGED Challenge using the Nautiq box robot (a LEGO Education SPIKE Prime robot). The run uses a simple active pinless attachment mounted at the front of the robot for precise engagement with the mission model.

The goal is a perfect 10 out of 10 runs by positioning all four crabs upright with their yellow bases touching the mat. You can find the full explaining tutorial here.

In this video tutorial, we do a 10 out of 10 for FIRST LEGO League, SUBMERGED 2024. And it's probably one of the most interesting missions I've seen recently in FIRST LEGO League, where we have to rotate the segments of this mission model, called the Artificial Habitat, so that the crab is above the yellow parts of the mission model.

10 out of 10. Let's see how we do it.

The way this mission model works is that it has four different sections. These four different sections - each of them has a crab. This is the animal, and it also has these yellow parts. The goal of the mission is to have the crab above the yellow base. That's the goal of the mission. And you can accomplish this mission in many different ways based on the points that you want to get. And you get, I think you get 10 points for every section, where the crab is above the yellow base of the section.

What we've decided to do, and not all teams are doing this, what we've decided to do is to go for all the sections. But based on time, based on strategy, you can decide to go only for three of the sections, or two of the sections. I don't think you can practically go for only one. Like, it's possible to go for two, three, or four of the sections. And we decided to go for four of the sections. But because of this, we lose a little bit of time for this mission.

The mission is also a little bit complex. That's why we are doing it in a single run. We go out of base, and we accomplish this mission on its own. So this is also a strategy that could be used during the competition when you have a group of mission models that are kind of easy to accomplish, and straightforward. You can group them in a single run, and you can accomplish two or three missions. Like something to collect, something to push. But once you have a more complex mission model - and we'll see this with another mission model on the other side of the field - when you have a complex mission model, it's good to have it in a single mission run.

This also allows you to decide, okay, do I want to go for this mission or not? Should I skip it based on time? Do you have enough time? Now, for the accomplishment of this mission model: in the end, we have all the crabs above the yellow base of the sections of the mission model. Initially, we start like this. So we can just lift the whole thing. We can lift it, and then we'll get, I think, two points. Like, two sections, 20 points. But here we do one, two. So we do a push, a lift, a push, and lift at the same time. And a push with returning the robot back to base. Not back to base, but a little bit backward.

We already did, like, seven or eight runs,

and all of them were successful. Move.

How much time does it take?

It's like 10 seconds here. And this run was not successful.

So it takes around 15 seconds to accomplish the whole mission model. This particular run was not successful. It happens sometimes.

A few more runs. Move forward. One thing that is kind of difficult to notice here is the second movement of the robot where we have to push and lift at the same time. And we have this attachment with the angle beams, and we push and lift at the same time. So it's like a complex movement of the attachment.

Here we just lift and push, while here we lift and push at the same time to get this whole mission model straight and then to turn back and push it.

Very interesting mission model. We've seen more and more of these, and I hope they stay at FIRST LEGO League. Mission models that require us to do a couple of things with them. Which is always fun.
