LEGO Education SPIKE Prime

Calix comes from Latin, meaning cup.

Calix is a robot designed to carry small objects—like a cup—while autonomously following a black line. When most people think about robotics, they imagine machines helping with household chores. Calix is a simple example of that vision brought to life. You can place a cup on it in the kitchen, and it will deliver the cup to the end of the black line!

The robot is powered by two SPIKE Prime medium motors for movement, and it uses a color sensor to follow the line precisely. At the front, a large motor connected to a gear system lifts and lowers the cup, allowing for easy pickup and delivery.

Calix is an elegant demonstration of how even simple robots can be designed to perform useful tasks—making robotics more approachable and practical for everyday life.

This is an attachment that could be easily detached after a mission is accomplished. It's built with LEGO Education SPIKE Prime parts and it demonstrates an important principle for building attachments for robotics competitions like FIRST LEGO League/World Robotics Olympiad and others. You move with the robot, you complete the mission and you leave the attachment on the field when the mission is completed. In this way you save time when adding the attachment as it is most of the time pinless and takes a fraction of a second to put it. This is an Inertia triggered attachment build with a LEGO MINDSTORMS Robot Inventor 51515 set. With this attachment we can collect different parts and bring them back to base at FIRST LEGO League competitions. The principle is useful as no additional motors are required for activating this attachment. In the same time it is active which means that it moves and can change it's position in space separately from the robot.. which is useful
