FLL 2023: Precise Drop, Deliver - Chain Monster box robot accomplishing M03, M04, M14, M15 Pro Preview

In this video tutorial we demonstrate how to accomplish M03, M04, M14, and M15 of the FIRST LEGO League 2023-2024 MASTERPIECE Challenge competition. We use the Chain Monster which is a LEGO Education SPIKE Prime robot equipped with two pinless active attachments.

The side attachment uses a gear mechanism to press down a lever and drop the mini figures with loops. It has a more advanced construction with a special lock to prevent the attachment from rotating when mounting it on the robot. Pay attention that the lock should be removed before the start of the run.

We use a special construction to help us align the robot in the base to ensure the robot starts from the same place every time.

In this video tutorial, we accomplish several missions in a single run. We start with the Chain Monster. From one base, we go to the other. We have to deliver and collect some of the minifigures from FIRST LEGO League MASTERPIECE 2023. We have to press down on a mission model like this. We also have to deliver some others. In the end, we have to be in the other base. We'll do a full run now for these few missions, and then we'll do a couple of breakdown runs. Let's see how it goes. Start from base. Move. Deliver the Masterpiece with one of the minifigures. Press down.

Precisely drop. Turn. Don't get lost. Precisely drop again. It's one of the best ways to accomplish these missions. A couple of words on how we start the robot. We use an additional set of parts to help us align in the base. It's always a good idea because this allows us to have a reproducible behavior of the robot. Consistent, reliable, and reproducible, because we start from the same place every time, which is nice.

Then we have this attachment on the front and an attachment on the side of the robot. What can we do with these attachments? With the first one - we deliver with it. It's a pinless attachment. We just put it on the robot and it's there quite fast. The other is very interesting because, what we can do with this attachment, is we can at the same time precisely drop and press down. Check out the building instructions for this attachment. See how it's built. It is powered by a single wheel, but then there is a gear wheel that powers two other gear wheels, and we can do a lot of things with this mechanism because it moves up and down, and we can precisely drop, we can press on so many things. We use this red part here just to make sure that the attachment is locked, and it starts from the same place every time. Try to build the attachment on your side. Try to build the robot. Try to build the mission models and try to replicate them. Then, try to reproduce the behavior of the robot. See how this specific attachment works on your side. It's also important to see how we load these mission models - the minifigures with the loop, and how we start the whole robot. So, right here, this is the first way in which we load the first loop, and in a similar way on the other side of the attachment. Moving with this attachment, it's easy now to precisely drop these minifigures. On the front, we have four axles, just for alignment, and they act as a container. In this container, we put the rest - the Masterpiece, along with this orange minifigure, and the other minifigure. Again, build the whole thing, try to replicate the attachment and the robot, and try to reproduce their behavior. You'll learn a lot. I'll see you in the next tutorial.
