Teacher's Notes: Managing students' attention span Pro Preview

Students have a limited attention span, especially at this age. Try to keep them engaged by alternating between different types of activities throughout the lesson.

When explaining new concepts, avoid long talks. Instead, switch between moments when students need to listen and moments when they can actively work on a task by themselves.

Suggested structure for the first lesson:

  1. Teacher and students introduce themselves

  2. Setting the class rules (teacher requires students’ attention)

  3. Logging in to the system (task for students)

  4. Building a robot (task for students)

  5. Introduction to programming and common mistakes (teacher requires students’ attention)

  6. Working on tasks (task for students)
