FLL 2023: 10 out of 10 Loop, Press down, Collect - Minibox robot accomplishing M02, M15 Pro Preview

This is a 10 out of 10 tutorial in which we focus on accomplishing M02 and M15 of the FIRST LEGO League 2023-2024 MASTERPIECE Challenge competition. We use the Minibox, a LEGO Education SPIKE Prime box robot.

In this scenario, the robot uses a complex attachment that combines several mechanisms. One of these mechanisms is detachable, meaning it disconnects from the robot after pressing down and changing the scenery of the M02 Theater Scene Change. Once this mechanism is activated, it triggers the rubber band mechanism, which collects the M15 minifigure. Be sure to study the attachment carefully before attempting to complete these missions.

We decided to build detachable attachments because team members often lose valuable time replacing attachments after runs. When the attachment disconnects on its own and stays on the mat, it saves a lot of time. However, be sure to carefully plan your next moves, as you’ll now have a few additional obstacles to navigate around!

This is a 10 out of 10 tutorial from 2023 MASTERPIECE, where we have to press down on a mission model, and we also have to collect a loop with a minifigure and bring it back to base. Two actions. Two missions. 10 out of 10.

Because that's the second part of six missions that we accomplish in a single run, and we've decided to split it, to break it down in a few smaller missions for you to be able to replicate and to reproduce the behavior of the robot and to learn from this. So you learn by doing. Do this, replicate the behavior of the robot. Build the attachment, build the mission models, and replicate. A couple of things that we can share. First, try to align always. Here, we don't exactly need to align to the mission model, but it's a mission model that could support this, and we could align to this mission model. So try to do this. Try to align. Let's wait for the robot to come.

We move. We press down. And we collect. We collect the loop, and when we move back, the detachable attachment is detached and the mini-figure with the loop is on the robot. You can see my new LEGO NINJAGO sword that I have. We have to press down. As we press down, we accomplish the mission. It's a mission that is a team mission, not team mission, but cooperation mission. We have to cooperate with the other team. The interesting thing about this attachment and what you can learn and steal from us here is the rubber band and how there is a locking mechanism. When we accomplish one of the missions by pressing down, and we move back and detach, we unlock the other part of the attachment and it collects the loop. It's a whole mechanism there that we built. We press down and as we press down, we unlock. Watch till the end. See how the robot performs. It's very consistent and very reliable. There are one or two runs in which there was a glitch with the robot, which is kind of okay for such a complex mission, where you have to at the same time press down and collect. And this is the second mission in the run. So, it's the second part of a multi-mission run where we accomplish two missions. I'll leave you to watch until the end and to see all the 10 runs and how consistent and reliable the robot is.
