FLL 2023: Push, Rubber Band, Shoot - MiniBox Box Robot accomplishing M08, M14, M15 Pro Preview

In this video tutorial, the MiniBox box robot accomplishes M08, M14, and M15 of the FIRST LEGO League 2023-2024 MASTERPIECE Challenge robotics competition. The robot is a LEGO Education SPIKE Prime box robot. In this run, the robot delivers the LEGO minifigure to its designated place and then pushes the M08 camera down the track to shoot the movie scene.

In this video tutorial, we accomplish missions from FIRST LEGO League 2023 MASTERPIECE, where we have to release this camera, and it's on rails. It's a mission that's on rails. Quite interesting. And we also have to deliver. We have to deliver a minifigure to a specific place on the field. Two missions, two actions. Let's see. Start from base. And we decided to keep this in the recording because we haven't aligned the robot correctly. We didn't start the robot from the exact place that it should be started. We thought, Okay, let's keep this. Let's align it better.

And next, we see that, okay, what happened here? Here, what we see is that for some reason, the minifigure, it was not aligned exactly right with the attachment. So there is a way in which this minifigure should be placed. And the whole point here is that you should make sure that you start the robot exactly as it should be started.

In the last run, we see, okay, we can accomplish the mission if we start the robot right, and we also leave the detachable attachment right there on the field. For this mission, we don't pull on the lever for the camera that's on the left, where we have the rails. We decided to accomplish it in a different way. Let's run it again. Let's run again. If we don't start it exactly right, this is one of the problems with these missions. You have to start the robot right. For this mission, we don't have an exact alignment. In one of the next solutions, we will fix this. We will improve on this. We better align with the mission model and accomplish the mission a little bit more consistently and reliably. This here is an improved version where we accomplish the same mission. We have to deliver this minifigure to the exact place, and we also have to engage with this lever and release the camera to roll on the rails. But we've improved from the previous time. Let's see. Cool. Same attachment, almost the same principle, but this time it accomplishes the mission much more consistently and reliably. We have the same MiniBox robot that we previously had.

And with this MiniBox robot, we can attach the attachment to the front, and it's easy to detach attachments because the goal with this robot was to build only detachable attachments. Attachments that we can leave on the field. Now, whether we should, it's a matter of strategy, but we better show you the principles of how you build them. The other interesting thing about this attachment is how we deliver this minifigure. We have a mechanism here, and with this mechanism, it stays locked until we press. So let's look at it. There is a rubber band right there. And with this rubber band, it stays locked. The rubber band is exerting some pull, and when we release the lock, the rubber band will shoot the beam forward. Well, it's a rubber band connected to an axle, and the axle shoots the beam. Again, very interesting principle. We move. We release. When we unlock, the attachment activates, and we get the job done. Let's see it again.

We move.

And when we press, it will release and unlock, and will activate the attachment. Try to replicate this behavior. Try to build the attachment. Try to follow the instructions. Try to accomplish the mission. See you in the next tutorial.
