This is a heavy lifting attachment and it can lift mission models vertically. It is build entirely from LEGO MINDSTORMS Robot Inventor 51515 parts. This is one of the more complex and interesting attachments that we demonstrate in the course and it show how a few gear wheels and levers could be used to change the motion from circular to linear. This is powerful concept that could be very valuable during FIRST LEGO League competitions.
Program for activating the active attachment using in FIRST LEGO League.
We use this attachment to demonstrate the principle of an active attachment. This is an attachment activated from the motor. It has one level attached to it. It could be reused. The attachment transfers power from the motor to the end of the lever and we can accomplish missions like the Power Switch mission from the FLLCasts Off-season mission models.
The goal of this course is to take you through some of the most useful principles for building and using attachments to accomplish missions at FIRST LEGO League competitions. The whole course is based on a LEGO MINDSTORMS Robot Inventor and you need a single 51515 set and without additional parts (you will need a second color sensor for the lessons for using two color sensors, but feel free to skip them if you don't have it). For every mission there is a Scratch and Python program attachment. The course consists of 25 lessons suitable for beginner and advanced students. Every lessons consists of a video tutorial demonstrating the principle and how the mission could be accomplished along with building instructions for the robot, the attachment and programs for controlling the robot.
In this video tutorial, we demonstrate how to release the cargo of a mission model. This mission model is an Airplane. We have to push a lever down to release it. We use an active attachment with a gear wheel.
This tutorial explains the use of motion and light/color sensors to accomplish a complex mission split into three parts. It gets into detail about how we keep a straight line with the motion sensor, follow a line with the color sensors, and transition between different parts of the program by aligning and detecting lines with the sensor. The goal is to get to a reliable and consistent behavior of the robot. On top of that, it is configurable, as we've left a few parameters that could be set to configure the behavior for a specific robot, venue, lighting, battery level, and wheels friction.
This is a recording of a completely perfect, 10 out of 10 accomplishment of a two-part mission - Train tracks, from the FIRST LEGO League 2021-2022 Cargo Connect competition. Due to the proper use of motion and color/light sensors, the robot is 100% consistent and reliable for a non-trivial mission. Even when the robot makes a mistake, it auto-corrects and compensates for this mistake.
