Four jobs are packed into one compact run for Mission 01: Surface Brushing in the FIRST LEGO League 2025-2026 UNEARTHED competition. The Smaller Pancake box robot uses the Surface Brushing attachment to settle against the model, clear both soil deposits, capture the brush, and return to base.
Discover why this solution achieves a perfect 10 out of 10 successful runs in the FIRST LEGO League 2025-2026 UNEARTHED competition. Using the Smaller Pancake box robot together with this passive attachment, we analyze the design choices that make the completion of Mission 15: Site Marking and Mission 12: Salvage Operation remarkably consistent.
The second construction of the series along with a comparison with the first construction. The new robot requires more parts, but has a few more advantages.
Learn how to complete Mission 15: Site Marking and Mission 12: Salvage Operation in the FIRST LEGO League 2025-2026 UNEARTHED competition using the Smaller Pancake box robot and this passive attachment.
Five different robot chassis. This is the goal of the series. To present ideas for different design of the robots and especially the robot bases. If the base is stable and balanced, then in could easily be extended. Let's start with the most simple of the five.
We should how to build a frame that could hold the attachments for specific competition missions. This frame is added in a pinless manner. This means very fast and easy without any glitches of the pins.
In this tutorial we present a way to align your robot to a black line. Go through common difficulties, that the teams face, when they need to align their robot, and provide a solution for them.
In this video we discuss how do we transfer power from the motors that are "inside the robot box" to the gear wheels that are "outside the robot box".
This is the first Active Pinless Attachment for the Box competition robot. The attachment is placed on the top of the robot and is controlled by one of the motors.
Probably the robot I like the most from this series of five robots. See the video to understand why and what is interesting and special about this robot.
One more example for an active attachment with a system of gear wheels. This time the system is constructed so that the attachment could lift heavy objects.
Without the use of any motor, you can still accomplish a number of missions using passive attachments. You can still pull/push on different levers using only a beam or two connected to the frame.
In this episode, we introduce a LEGO Mindstorms EV3 version of competition robot construction. It is a modular construction, with medium motor for additional attachments and two light or colour sensors for orientating on the field.
Continuing with the Proportional algorithm for following lines. Smooth and stable this is the first part of the PID.
Rubber bands in the LEGO Mindstorms sets are very handy when it comes to collecting objects, especially loops. The mechanism most of the time could work like this - an axle is pushed, a rubber band is released and a lever collects the loop.
Sometimes robot builders are so overwhelmed with the process of constructing a robot that they forget two very important parts. The brick should be accessible and the cables should not get in the way. These are referred by us as Brick Accessibility and Cable Management.
Pinless attachments are smart and quick and could make a big differences between two robot constructions. In this video we are sharing a nice idea for a pinless attachment placed below the robot.
Last part of the series. The final touch of the program makes sure that it works and is following the line with the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Color Sensor in a smooth and fast way.
This video discusses the fact the robot requires a few more parts that are available in the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robotics sets. We have a number of other constructions that require less parts, but for this particular robot construction we have decided to go beyond the standard sets, cheaply buy a few more parts and build a whole box robot with them.
In this episode we look at the way this robot is balanced. A well-balanced robot could handle heavier attachments without losing track of its position on the robotics competition field.
The third robot has the brick and motors placed vertically. This is quite unusual and difficult, but the construction is very powerful because it saves space.
In this video we look at the way this robot uses the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 motors. How are they attached and the what the rotation of the motor is transferred to the attachments.
In Episode 58 we introduced you to a LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Modular robot. In this tutorial, we show you how we reached that construction. We start from a construction found on the Internet and take you through the process of examining and improving it, till we reach a more stable and reliable robot.
Second active pinless attachment for the robot construction. It is placed in the top/right corner of the robot and includes an interesting gear system for transferring the power. The attachment is suitable for complete rotations.
In this video we are also focusing on lifting a loop as a common mission on robotics competitions like FIRST LEGO League/World Robotics Olympiad. We demonstrated an attachment for lifting a loop. The tutorial uses Luly, a small LEGO Education SPIKE Prime competition robot with 3D building instructions as a robot base.
This is a third example for adding an active attachment. This third attachment is now connected to the wheel at the front of the robot. Again, the attachment could be easily extended.
