The main task of this lesson is a bit abstract. We provide an explanation for why “60 + red” works, but we don’t expect students to fully understand it. The real focus of the lesson is the final task, where they create their own melody. Students should learn that a melody is built from repeating patterns and variations. Encourage creativity here, especially in choosing which bricks to use, as many of the smaller ones can be combined in interesting ways. Here’s what the program looks like:
