For this class you would need a field. The field consists of two parallel black lines on the floor. The lines could be detected by a color sensor. For the additional tasks you would need two more lines for the robot to stop at third line and to have a starting line. You can use tape or you can print the field.
The goal of today's lesson is for students to learn by their mistakes. Give them a little bit more time to think over the task before you help them. We expect students to slow down and take more time accomplishing the task to attach the color sensor and the task for stopping on a black line.
The task is not very difficult. The robot must move forward until it detects a black line. After that it moves back one rotation to move away from the black line. At the end the robot moves back until it detect the black line at the start.

The students build many robots with chain-treads. The Color Sensor is introduced and robots use it to recognize the colors of the objects around them. Students learn about gears, basic gear constructions, and their application. Robots now can stop on a black line and can follow a line using their sensor.

Lesson 2 - Tank. Stop at black Line
Introduction
An important politician from a foreign country will arrive in our base today. But there is fog and nobody is sure if the landing runway is clear for landing. Today we will construct a robot tank that would clear the runway. To do this it must be able to navigate in a fog.
How could the robot navigate in a fog? How could the plane navigate in a fog?
To navigate in a fog the robot needs sensors. We know that there is a black line at the end of the runway and it is enough to use one color sensor to detect this line and then return back to us. In this way we would know that the tank has pushed all the obstacles that are on the runway and it is now cleared for landing.
