Garbage Container built with a LEGO Education SPIKE Prime set, available as 3D building instructions

This is a garbage container—and it’s fun! Like most real garbage containers, it has only three wheels because one is missing. You’ll also notice that one of the wheels is slightly different and tilted to the side—just like the real thing.

The container is great for play and for storing small items inside.

Suitable for children aged 6–10. Build the garbage container and leave it out for a week—children will naturally engage with it and are likely to spend at least an hour playing with it over the course of the week.

This demo course is part of the Learn at Home program with LEGO Education SPIKE Prime. Learn more about the program at Learn at Home with LEGO Education SPIKE Prime. The course contains a few instructions and challenges that everybody could use after registration. It gives you the opportunity to try a couple of the instructions at FLLCasts for FREE and to play with your child for a couple of weeks. After the completion of the Demo course we would direct you the next one.

How it started

It started with a garbage container.

My daughters are 7 years old (as of the time of writing this). Programming the SPIKE Prime on their own is a bit challenging for them, so I simply built a garbage container. No particular reason—just an idea that came to mind. No motors, no programming, no hub. Just a simple construction. Simple, but fun, because you can open the lid.

This construction stayed at home for about a week, and they used it in all sorts of ways. It became a toy holder, a special chest... for 2–3 hours that week, they used it in various types of play, usually for about 20–30 minutes at a time. I didn’t push them to play with it or direct their activities. We just had it around, letting them rebuild it from scratch and use it however they wanted.
