Space is quiet and beautiful, but with almost no heat, air, nor air pressure, it could freeze, suffocate, and boil you all at once! Help our spacewalking astronaut “Gerhard” get to safety.

Mission

The robot needs to get Gerhard’s body into the airlock chamber.

Astronaut completely in the habitation hub’s airlock chamber: 22 OR
Astronaut partly in the habitation hub’s airlock chamber: 18
Possible scores: 0, 18, 22

Scoring Requirements

For this mission, the word “body” includes all parts except the loop.
Results must be visible at the end of the match.

Moving Straight with LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robots

One of the most controversial topics when it comes to LEGO Mindstorms robots is how to make them move in a straight line. This is a problem that has caused a lot of confusion among teachers, parents, rookie teams and students. The robot makes about 2-3 centimetres error for every meter, which is about an inch for every 3-4 feets. In this course, I would like to discuss the different ways in which you can improve the behaviour of the robot and how you could make it move in a straight line with the help of the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 Gyro Sensor.

Scratch (Word Blocks) program to turn fast and use Motion Sensor from LEGO Education SPIKE Prime

In this program we demonstrate how to program a SPIKE robot to execute a faster and more accurate turn. You can press the right button to see how the robot executes a 90-degree turn with the aid of acceleration, to improve accuracy. After that, you can press the left button to see the robot turn fast with to acceleration, overshoot the target angle, and then return slowly back to it. That way, the robot reaches the target angle faster and more accurately. This method is useful for larger turns when time is limited. For smaller turns, it may cause the opposite effect. Since the robot, this program was made for, is a little tilted, the angle it is programmed to turn to is changed a little to compensate for the tilt.

This program was intended for and tested on the Gazon robot
